Brittany is one of France's most pleasant regions in which to live. Did you also know that it was a good place to spend your holidays? Discover 10 reasons to go camping in Brittany this summer.

Those who choose Brittany for their camping holidays do so because it is a beautiful region: the coastal landscapes are superb, the coastline immense, the scenery sublime, the people warm and the traditions endearing. All these reasons are real and we describe them in this series of articles.

However, since we are talking about camping in Brittany, the first argument concerns the campsites themselves, since this region is particularly rich in this type of accommodation, which is popular with the French and Europeans.

There are many campsites in Brittany

The embarrassment of riches

There are over 730 campsites in Brittany. Needless to say, you're spoilt for choice... and no excuses for not finding the right one for you!

Each of the 4 Breton departments offers you a different face of Brittany:

  • Finistère: you can choose to discover Finistère, the westernmost French department, between the Atlantic Ocean, the Iroise Sea and the English Channel. To enjoy an important religious heritage, cities of Art and History and small towns of character, select one of the 255 campsites in Finistère.
  • Morbihan: you can choose from more than 240 campsites in Morbihan, in Southern Brittany, to enjoy a mild and sunny climate, 905km of coastline, an inland sea - the Gulf of Morbihan - made up of some forty islands.
  • Côtes d'Armor: in the northern part of Brittany, choose one of the 160 campsites in the Côtes d'Armor, a department with exceptional natural sites such as the Pink Granite Coast and the Emerald Coast.
  • Ille-et-Vilaine: finally, nearly 80 campsites in Ille-et-Vilaine will serve as a base for discovering Dinard, Saint-Malo or the Mont-Saint-Michel bay.

Affordable rates

Finally, a campsite in Brittany will represent a smaller budget than if you decide to go camping in the South or South West of France. In these times of inflation, these affordable rates are the economic argument that can tip the balance.

How to choose your campsite in Brittany?

Besides the destination, your choice of a campsite in Brittany will be based on more personal considerations. Here are some ideas:

The advantages of an indoor or heated swimming pool in Brittany

Nearly 300 campsites in Brittany have a swimming pool, which is a real advantage for holidaymakers, especially if the campsite has an indoor pool or a heated pool: if the weather is not good that day, you will appreciate the comfort provided by these pools adapted to changing climates.

A plus if you have children: some of the beautiful Breton campsites have a crazy water park! In terms of facilities, some campsites also offer SPA and wellness centres.

We recommend: the Pen Palud *** campsite in Ploemeur (56), located 150m from the sea, for its heated indoor swimming pool!

The pleasure of camping by the water in Brittany

Did you know that? Nearly 500 campsites in Brittany are located less than 5 kilometres from the sea, ideal for enjoying the thousands of kilometres of coastline, the 800 islands or islets and the 400 beaches of Brittany. A little bonus: some of the campsites in Brittany even have direct access to the beach!

If you prefer the peace and quiet of the countryside, you should know that more than 300 campsites are located near a lake or river in Brittany: depending on your choice of campsite, between sea and lake, pond and river, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the water.

Choose according to the size of the campsite

In Brittany, you will find a large majority of campsites on a human scale. Depending on your preferences, you have a wide choice between family campsites (among the Breton campsites, 400 have less than 100 pitches), campsites with 100 to 300 pitches or on the contrary larger campsites, much rarer in this region which puts conviviality and authenticity at the heart of any relationship.

We recommend: the Val de Landrouet *** campsite in Merdrignac (22), located on the banks of the pond of the same name, for its family and friendly atmosphere.

Choosing a campsite according to its rating

The majority of campsites in Brittany have 2 and or 3 stars, but there are also 90 **** campsites in Brittany and 24 ***** campsites. Depending on your expectations in terms of services, comfort and size of pitches, there is a wide choice. In terms of budget, a * or ** campsite in Brittany will be cheaper than a campsite offering more services.

We recommend: the Village Port de Plaisance campsite ***** in Clohars-Fouesnant (29), for its water park, consisting of 3 outdoor pools and in particular a 1000m² covered - and heated - pool, offering water slides and lagoons for the pleasure of the whole family.

Criteria for a tailor-made campsite

Do you never go on holiday without your pet or would you like your children to benefit from a children's club at the campsite? Do you prefer to pitch your tent or rent a mobile home or an unusual location? Do you prefer environmentally friendly campsites or campsites that organise a yoga course? Everything is possible on a campsite, and Brittany's campsites are not the last to offer you a variety of services: don't hesitate to use the search filters or the advanced search to list exactly your ideal campsite in Brittany!
