Museums in Lyon

Famous for its historic centre, many places in the city of Lyon are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are full of treasures with 2,000 years of history.

Located at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers in the La Confluence district, with its futuristic glass, concrete and stainless steel structure, the Musée des Confluences has not gone unnoticed since its creation in 2014. Indeed, it is here that we find the keys to understanding the origin of the world. The museum, with its majestic glass floor, has eight exhibition rooms as well as four permanent exhibitions on the theme of the great narrative of humanity: eternity, species, the place of death in different civilisations or the organisation of societies. You will have the chance to meet the Australian dugong, the Choulans mammoth or the superb Taubasthis mummy.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, located on the Place des Terreaux and housed in the Palais Saint-Pierre, is one of the most important museums in Europe. It houses collections from the Middle Ages to modern art. There are also marvels such as works by Courbet, Fragonard, Poussin, David, Rubens, Monet, Matisse, Gauguin... or art objects in the department of antiquities with earthenware from the Renaissance, Byzantine ivories or enamels from Limoges. The museum gives everyone the opportunity to get to know the world of art through a wide range of cultural and recreational activities.

The benefits of the Pilat Regional Nature Park

Famous in the world for its vineyards, the Beaujolais region is a particularly attractive land with a huge area of vineyards but also charming villages such as Beaujeu or Oingt.

Less famous but just as attractive, the Parc Naturel Régional du Pilat is an immense 72,000 hectare preserved territory located between the Rhône and Loire departments. A paradise for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, the park offers a wide variety of landscapes including vineyards, orchards, beech and fir forests and huge green areas with abundant flora and fauna. The Couzon dam invites you to go for a walk, as well as the crêt de la Perdrix situated at 1400 metres high and the highest point of the Pilat massif. The crêt de l'Oeillon also offers a magnificent view of the Alps and the Rhône valley.

Archaeological site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal, back to the Gallo-Roman era

It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe. The site of Saint Romain en Gal is located in Vienne, a town about thirty kilometres south of Lyon. It is an extraordinary journey back 2000 years. We discover the mosaic, the economy and the craft industry of the time and the history of the site as well as a house to discover the daily life of the time. You can see ancient baths, ruins of shops and houses. Children's activities take place on the site as well as the festival of gastronomic cultures in September.
