In Romorantin, one of the most beautiful French automobile museums is open. Walking through the doors is like flipping through the pages of a beautiful history book, that of Matra of course, but also that of the best and most innovative work of the French car industry.

The Matra Museum, to discover during your camping holiday

For your accommodation, choose a campsite near the Espace Automobiles Matra museum in Romorantin-Lanthenay: the Tournefeuille *** campsite, located on the banks of the river Sauldre and open from April to the end of October, or two nearby campsites.

This museum, located in the Loir et Cher region, is steeped in history. It is the former Beaulieu factories in which the most prestigious 16mm and Super 8 cameras of the 70s and 80s were manufactured. Forty years later, more than 3,000 m² are devoted to the automobile. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the Matra brand and its road models. It begins with the Matra Djet of 1964 and ends with the Avantime of 2003, whose commercial failure precipitated the fall of the brand, and includes various versions of the 530, including a rare example redesigned by Vignale, and the Bagherra and Muréna coupes with their three front seats.

Great hours of French motor sport

The largest part of the Matra exhibition concerns competition. You can see single-seaters driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise, Henri Pescarolo, Cris Amon and Jackie Stewart, as well as prototypes that have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times.

Matra... but not only!

In the Matra Museum, other French brands are also represented such as Citroën with fabulous creations, DS Chapron cabriolet, traction cabriolet, SM Maserati cabriolets and Citroën C5. Very moving, one of the last existing and running prototypes of the 2 CV dating from 1939. Concerning the "brand with chevrons", you will find some of the cars on which Sébastien Loeb was world champion. In addition, there are temporary exhibitions, the main theme of which is of course the car.
