The best time to visit
Mers-les-Bains can be explored all year round, but spring and summer bring out the full beauty of its colourful facades and light-filled cliffs. Summer is particularly lively, with markets, entertainment and the famous Bathers' Festival in July. In autumn, the resort returns to a soothing calm, ideal for walking along the coastal paths.
Day 1: Belle Époque Esplanade and spectacular cliffs
Morning: a stroll between listed villas and the seafront
Start your holiday with a stroll along the Esplanade du Général Leclerc, a veritable open-air museum. Nearly 600 Belle Époque villas in flamboyant styles line the seafront: sculpted bow windows, polychrome ceramics, elaborate balconies... A unique setting in France, listed as a conservation area since 1986.
Afternoon: the cliffs and the GR21
After a gourmet break by the beach, put on your trainers and set off along the GR21 coastal footpath from Mers. Head for Bois de Cise or Ault, along the white cliffs that plunge into the English Channel. Along the way, don't miss the statue of Notre-Dame de la Falaise, perched 80 metres above sea level, offering spectacular views of the Côte d'Albâtre and the Villes Sœurs.
In the evening, let yourself be lulled by the surf on the pebble beach, with your feet in the water and a basket of local produce in your hand.
Day 2: Nature, swimming and Belle Époque immersion
Morning: beach, paddle and seaside atmosphere
At low tide, the beach at Mers-les-Bains stretches wide and becomes the ideal campground for young and old alike. Paddleboarding, sea kayaking, bodyboarding or just an invigorating swim - there's something for everyone. A dynamic sailing club offers supervised activities that are accessible even to beginners.
Afternoon: the Prairie and the city centre
Back on terra firma, discover the Prairie, the green heart of the resort. This shady park is home to the local market and summer events. Ideal for a siesta in the shade or a gourmet break. Then wander through the narrow streets of the town centre, with its food shops, craftsmen and friendly terraces. Don't forget to visit the church of Saint-Martin, an elegant neo-Gothic gem. Finish off with a snack or an ice cream with a sea view.
Le Tréport: funicular railway and fishing port
Just a few minutes from Mers, don't miss Le Tréport, with its free funicular railway cut into the cliffs, its panoramic views over the bay and its vibrant fishing port. Here you can admire the brightly-coloured trawlers, the houses of the Cordiers and the stalls of ultra-fresh fish for your dinner.
Where to dine and go out?
In Mers-les-Bains, the pleasures of the table can be savoured on a terrace facing the sea or in the warm atmosphere of a typical bistro. The restaurants along the promenade offer generous seaside cuisine based on fresh fish, seafood and local specialities such as ficelle picarde or mussels in cream sauce. As the sun goes down, settle down on the seafront for a romantic dinner by the light of lanterns, or opt for a brasserie in the town centre to share a plate of charcuterie and a glass of local wine.
In the evening, the resort comes alive with open-air concerts on the esplanade, a night-time craft market in summer, or a moonlit stroll beneath the colourful facades. For a more festive atmosphere, neighbouring Le Tréport offers a number of lively quayside bars where you can enjoy a nightcap with friends.
