Built just after the Revolution, the museum building was completely renovated in 1994. Since the 19th century, the collection has continued to grow and is now considered unique. The great artistic currents can be discovered through David, Veronese, Delacroix and Fragonard, as well as a fine collection of Russian icons and the impressionists Sisley and Monet. In all, 60 rooms make up the permanent collection. Temporary exhibitions are also held regularly.

A collection of works presenting Normandy from the 19th century to the present day, in collaboration with the Musée des Beaux-arts in Caen and the Musée Malraux in Le Havre. The Musée des Beaux-arts de Rouen was awarded the "Musée de France" label a few years ago.
