Easily accessible from France, this region in north-eastern Spain appeals to families as much as it does to travellers seeking nature and freedom. From the Costa Brava to Barcelona, and on to the wide open spaces of the Pyrenees, discover the most beautiful destinations for a camping holiday in Catalonia.

Catalonia, a camping destination with a thousand landscapes

Located in north-eastern Spain, Catalonia captivates with its wealth of contrasts. In just a few hours’ drive, you can go from the wild coves of the Costa Brava to the cool peaks of the Pyrenees, passing through agricultural plains, medieval villages and vibrant towns. This diversity makes it an ideal destination for a camping holiday, where every stop offers a different atmosphere and varied experiences.

Barcelona, a vibrant cultural gateway

It’s impossible to talk about Catalonia without mentioning Barcelona. The Catalan capital is a melting pot of architecture, culture and Mediterranean life.

Among the must-sees, the Sagrada Família impresses with its grandeur and unique history, whilst Park Güell offers a colourful immersion into Gaudí’s world.

Strolling through the Gothic Quarter, you’ll discover a labyrinth of medieval alleyways, hidden squares and lively cafés.

Along the coastline, the beaches of La Barceloneta offer a more relaxed break, ideal after a day of sightseeing. Barcelona is also a gastronomic city, where you can sample traditional tapas in markets such as La Boqueria.

It’s an essential stop before heading towards the coast or inland, perfect for gradually getting into the Catalan spirit.

The Costa Brava, between turquoise coves and charming villages

To the north of Barcelona, the Costa Brava boasts a spectacular coastline. Coves with turquoise waters, steep cliffs and fragrant pine forests create a picture-postcard setting.

Among the must-see destinations, Tossa de Mar charms visitors with its fortified old town overlooking the sea. Further north, Begur offers access to some of the region’s most beautiful coves, such as Aiguablava or Sa Tuna, reachable after short walks.

The legendary village of Cadaqués, with its white houses and artistic atmosphere, particularly associated with Salvador Dalí, perfectly embodies the spirit of the Costa Brava.

It is also an ideal destination for camping in Catalonia, thanks to its balance between unspoilt nature and high-quality tourist facilities.

The Catalan Pyrenees: nature, hiking and wide open spaces

To the west, the Catalan Pyrenees offer a completely different landscape. Here, nature reigns supreme. The Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park is one of the region’s jewels, with its high-altitude lakes, deep forests and hiking trails suitable for all abilities.

The Núria Valley, accessible by rack railway, offers a total immersion in spectacular mountain scenery. In summer, it is a hiker’s paradise, whilst in winter, the region transforms into a winter sports destination.

Mountain villages, such as Baqueira-Beret or the small towns of the Val d’Aran, offer a chance to discover a more authentic and unspoilt Catalonia.

Why choose camping in Catalonia?

Catalonia is a top destination for camping enthusiasts thanks to several major advantages:

  • a wide variety of campsites by the sea, in the countryside or in the mountains
  • a sunny climate for much of the year
  • excellent accessibility from France
  • options suited to both families and backpackers

Camping takes on a special dimension here: that of a free, flexible way of travelling close to nature, allowing you to explore a variety of settings in a single holiday.

The most beautiful campsites in Catalonia: combining comfort, nature and the Mediterranean

Catalonia offers a particularly wide range of campsites, from large family resorts to more intimate sites surrounded by nature. Many enjoy a prime location, often just a stone’s throw from the sea or in the heart of unspoilt countryside.

Costa Brava: luxury campsites and direct access to the sea

On the Costa Brava, certain campsites stand out for their level of comfort and exceptional location.

Cypsela, located in Sant Antoni de Calonge, is one of the most comprehensive complexes in the region. Surrounded by greenery and close to the beaches, it combines modern facilities, large aquatic areas and a family-friendly atmosphere.

A more natural and unspoilt Catalonia

For a calmer, more authentic atmosphere, El Pinar campsite offers an immersion in a more natural environment, ideal for those seeking tranquillity without straying far from the beaches.

In a completely different setting, Alfacs campsite, situated near the Ebro Delta, reveals a wild and little-known side of Catalonia. With its lagoons, migratory birds and vast natural beaches, the landscape here feels almost timeless.
