The key stages of Calvados

The D-Day beaches, Honfleur or Deauville on the Côte Fleurie are must-sees in Calvados and even in Normandy... but there are so many others!

The historic city of William the Conqueror, Caen is a metropolis open to the English Channel, attractive in particular for its two-hour distance from Paris. It has a beautiful architectural heritage that has been well preserved despite the 1944 bombings. You should see the fortified castle dating from 1060, which offers a beautiful panorama of the city, the Ladies' Abbey, an 11th century monastery founded by Queen Matilda, the Men's Abbey and the church of Saint-Etienne, a magnificent example of Romanesque art, and of course the remarkable Caen Memorial, which evokes the post-war period.

Capital of the D-Day landing beaches, Bayeux retains the charm of a remarkably well-preserved medieval town. Here, a walk is essential to observe the old houses with their half-timbered facades as they wind their way through the ancient streets. The famous Bayeux tapestry in the William the Conqueror centre, as well as the majestic Gothic cathedral.

The Côte Fleurie is a string of charming and famous seaside resorts such as Deauville, Trouville, Honfleur, Houlgate, Villers-sur-Mer and Cabourg. In Houlgate, the magnificent 19th century houses along the coastline are a reminder of the famous era of sea bathing. For almost 40 kilometres, the Côte Fleurie is also made up of large beaches where it is good to take a walk to breathe the invigorating air. As for Cabourg, located two hours from Paris, it is a place where you can feel the gentle way of life and the Belle Epoque atmosphere with its Casino and its Grand Hotel... the perfect place for a romantic weekend!
