At the Seaquarium Marine Institute in Le Grau du Roi, Mediterranean and tropical fish live in colourful pools of coral and aquatic plants.
We are especially impressed by the footbridge and the tunnel which allow us to get very close to the sharks: they swim above our heads, we have the impression of being in the aquarium! A "sharkarium", not to be missed. For children, a special course has been designed, which of course includes the giant sea lion and seal tank, whose games and moustachioed faces are a pleasure to watch. Finally, you can learn all about sea turtles in the museum area. Created in 1989, the Seaquarium Marine Institute was an immediate success as the first aquarium in the region. Marine mammals arrived in 2001 and the sharkarium opened in 2009, the first in Europe! Today, the Seaquarium Marine Institute is home to over 2,000 fish representing nearly 200 species, as well as 25 species of shark. Visitors can also see seals and sea lions there.
An aquarium with a mission
Finally, the Seaquarium Institut Marin in Le Grau-du-Roi is also an institute dedicated to the conservation and protection of marine biodiversity. Through research programmes, awareness-raising initiatives and scientific partnerships, its teams are helping to improve our understanding of Mediterranean marine ecosystems and the species that inhabit them. Monitoring seahorses, studying sharks and protecting seagrass beds are just some of the projects being carried out to better understand and preserve the marine world.

The Seaquarium Marine Institute has facilities designed to make visiting easier for people with disabilities. The site holds the ‘Tourisme & Handicap’ accreditation and offers various support services for visitors with reduced mobility, hearing impairments or autism spectrum disorders.

Useful tips for visiting the Seaquarium Marine Institute
Allow around two hours to make the most of the tour. During school holidays, aim to arrive in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the busiest times. Also remember to check the timetables for shows and feeding sessions before your visit. In summer, booking your ticket in advance can save you time at the entrance.

Opening hours: April, May, June, 1–6 July, September: 9.30 am to 7.30 pm. From 7 July to 31 August: 9.30 am to 11.00 pm. October to March: 9.30 am to 6.30 pm
2026 prices: adults: €17.50; children (aged 5–15): €13. Free for under-5s. Family ticket: €49.50 (2 adults + 2 children).
