Halloween at the campsite: Homair celebrates Día de los Muertos

For the All Saints’ Day holidays, Halloween takes on a Mexican flavour at eight Homair campsites. On the programme: children’s activities, creative workshops, festive evenings and parades inspired by the famous Día de los Muertos.

How about celebrating Halloween differently this year? To extend the season and attract families to its campsites during the autumn, Homair is embracing a colourful theme inspired by the Día de los Muertos, the famous Mexican festival that honours the dead in a festive atmosphere.

Every weekend in October and during the All Saints’ Day holidays, eight of the brand’s campsites will be decked out with calaveras, papel picado, cempasúchil flowers and colourful alebrijes. The programme offers a fresh take on Halloween whilst retaining what makes it such a hit with children: games, fancy dress, challenges and family entertainment.

Challenges and games for children

Young holidaymakers will be able to test their courage on the ‘Journey to the Afterlife’ trail, before tackling ‘The Crossing of Mictlan’, an aquatic obstacle course. The more daring can also test their skills in the ‘Aquatic Lucha Libre’. For those who prefer puzzles, the escape game ‘Los tesoros de la memoria’ will invite budding detectives to set off in search of mysterious treasures. It’s the perfect way to add a touch of adventure to the All Saints’ Day holidays, whilst making the most of the facilities and activities on offer at the campsites.

A Mexican atmosphere that carries into the evenings

The programme continues once night falls. Families can try their hand at ‘La Lotería Mexicana’, the traditional Mexican lottery game, before testing their musical knowledge with the blind test ‘La Música de los muertos’. Another highlight: ‘La Búsqueda de recuerdos’, a big interactive evening combining quizzes, challenges and calavera competitions. Children will also have their own festive moment with the ‘Mini-dis’Coco’, a mini-disco where Mexican ponchos, masks and fancy dress will be the order of the day.

Creative workshops in the spirit of Día de los Muertos

The Mexican theme will also feature in the creative workshops. Families will be able to take part in the ‘Calaveras Competition’ and design their most beautiful skeleton mask. Other workshops will offer the chance to discover papel picado – the traditional Mexican paper cut-outs – or to help create the ‘Altar of the Ancestors’, decorated with cempasúchil flowers. At the kids’ club, children can make their own alebrijes, mariachi guitars and fiesta sombreros.

Homi and Topi kick things off

The mascots Homi and Topi will also be joining in the fun. From Friday onwards, they’ll be taking part in the ‘Día de los Muertos Carnival’, a big parade for families. On Sunday, the weekend will draw to a close with the ‘Adiós de los alebrijes’, featuring some treats, cuddles and one last ‘Crazy Dance’ by the pool.

Eight campsites to celebrate Halloween over the All Saints’ Day holiday

The event is taking place at eight Homair campsites across several regions of France:

Set against a backdrop of seaside, countryside and wilder landscapes, these various destinations offer the chance to enjoy a camping holiday during the All Saints’ Day holidays, whilst taking part in the Halloween-themed activities on offer.

Another way to extend the camping season

With this programme, Homair aims to extend the tourist season and attract families during the autumn. What makes it particularly original is the choice of Día de los Muertos, which adds a colourful and festive touch to a period traditionally associated with pumpkins and spooky decorations.

For holidaymakers wishing to get away for a few days over the All Saints’ Day break, camping can therefore remain an attractive option, particularly when campsites still offer activities and facilities tailored to families.

This year, Halloween is taking on a Mexican flavour: a mix of thrills, creativity and celebration that should appeal to young and old alike.
