Why choose a campsite with a heated swimming pool?
A heated swimming pool makes it easier to enjoy a swim when the temperatures aren’t yet high enough to make you want to get in the water. It’s particularly welcome in spring or late summer, but also on a cool day in the height of summer or simply when you prefer the water to be at a comfortable temperature.
At the campsite, it’s also a real convenience for families: children can enjoy the pool for longer without the water being too cold to cut their swim short. And even in the sunniest regions, a heated pool is still a welcome feature when the temperature drops, particularly at the start or end of the day.
Finally, depending on the campsite, the heating system may cover one or more pools and operate for varying lengths of time. Some even go so far as to keep their swimming pools heated throughout their entire opening season. This is precisely what several of the campsites we’ve selected demonstrate.
What types of heated swimming pools can you find at campsites?
Heated indoor swimming pools
Indoor swimming pools, like retractable (or semi-covered) pools (which have panels that allow all or part of the pool to be opened), let you enjoy a swim sheltered from the elements, with pleasant water temperatures whatever the weather. Some are heated throughout the campsite’s opening season, whilst others operate for a shorter period.
Heated outdoor swimming pools
It’s not the first thing that springs to mind to heat an outdoor swimming pool, and yet some campsites do indeed offer heated outdoor pools. The aim is the same as for an indoor pool: to maintain a pleasant temperature and allow you to enjoy a swim when the water is still a little too cool.
Depending on the campsite, the heating may operate throughout the season or only at certain times. Some campsites even combine a heated outdoor pool with a heated indoor pool, so you can enjoy swimming whatever the weather.
Heated swimming pools at campsites
Here are a few examples of campsites with heated swimming pools, in a wide variety of destinations across France, whether by the sea, in the mountains or in the countryside. This selection is, of course, by no means exhaustive. To find more destination ideas, take a look at our selection of campsites with heated swimming pools.
Heated swimming pools all season long
Some campsites heat their swimming pools throughout their opening period, allowing you to enjoy a swim from the start to the end of the season:
At the Les Criques de Porteils***** campsite in Argelès-sur-Mer, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, two outdoor pools are also heated throughout the campsite’s opening season.
In the Aveyron, the La Grange de Monteillac**** campsite in Laissac-Sévérac l’Église heats its large outdoor pool and the adjoining paddling pool throughout the season.
In Haute-Savoie, the Fernuy**** in La Clusaz has an indoor swimming pool that is heated throughout the season. The same applies in the Lot, at the Avignon Parc**** campsite in Vedène.
At the Le Lavedan**** campsite in Lau-Balagnas, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, you’ll find a retractable roof pool that remains heated throughout the campsite’s opening season.
At these campsites, the heated swimming pool remains accessible and enjoyable throughout the opening season.
Heating periods vary depending on the campsite
Not all campsites heat their swimming pools throughout their opening period. Some specify a particular period, which may, however, span several months.
The outdoor swimming pool at the Clos de la Chaume*** campsite in Corcieux, in the Vosges, is heated from 1 May to 20 September.
At the L’Océan***** campsite in Brem-sur-Mer, in the Vendée, the water park, heated to 29 °C, is open throughout the campsite’s opening season, whilst the outdoor pool area is heated from June onwards.
At L’Étoile des Neiges***** in Montclar, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the 190 m² indoor swimming pool and the 450 m² outdoor water play area are heated during the campsite’s summer opening season, from mid-May to early September.
Operating arrangements may also be adjusted to suit the weather conditions. At the Le Paradis***** campsite in Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, in the Dordogne, the indoor pool is heated throughout the season, whilst one of the two outdoor pools may be heated in the low season, depending on the weather. At the Camp du Soleil**** campsite in Ars-en-Ré, in Charente-Maritime, and at the Tensch Jolie**** campsite in Francaltroff, in Moselle, at least one swimming pool is heated from the campsite’s opening to closing, whilst the others are heated depending on the weather.
These examples show that heating periods can vary from one campsite to another. If you’re planning a stay in spring or at the end of the season, do remember to check the dates when the swimming pool is heated before booking.
Several heated pools at the same campsite
Some campsites offer several heated pools, allowing you to enjoy a variety of swimming experiences.
At Holiday Green***** in Fréjus, in the Var, the aquatic area features three pools heated throughout the season, including a large 1,000 m² Californian-style pool. A small indoor pool also complements the heated aquatic facilities.
At La Capricieuse***** campsite in Luc-sur-Mer, in Calvados, holidaymakers can enjoy a fully-fledged indoor water park throughout the season, comprising three pools heated to 30°C and an outdoor pool heated to 29°C.
The Les Alizés**** campsite in Lannion, in the Côtes-d’Armor, also capitalises on this synergy with its indoor pool heated to 27°C throughout the season and its outdoor pool heated to 25°C only at certain times of the year.
