Located in the Landes region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Soorts-Hossegor is a charming destination thanks to its privileged location between the Atlantic Ocean and the majestic Landes Forest. This legendary seaside resort offers a wide range of campsites, from 3 to 5 stars, spread between the seaside and the pine forest. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the many establishments within an 18-kilometre radius of Hossegor, offering easy access to sandy beaches and the region's natural treasures.

Are there any campsites located directly in Hossegor?

Yes, there are campsites in Hossegor itself, but they are few and farther and often smaller or more basic than those in neighbouring towns such as Capbreton and Seignosse. The main one is Camping Municipal Les Chevreuils, located in a natural setting close to the lake and the ocean. For more choice, particularly in terms of family facilities (water park, entertainment, etc.), many holidaymakers opt for campsites in nearby Seignosse, Capbreton or Messanges, just a few kilometres away.

What is the difference between Hossegor and Soorts-Hossegor?

Hossegor and Soorts-Hossegor are the same town: Soorts-Hossegor is the official name.

Soorts is the original village, located inland, with a more traditional, residential atmosphere.

Hossegor is the usual (and tourist) name for the seaside resort, the seafront, the marine lake and the beaches, which are very popular with holidaymakers and surfers.

In short, Hossegor is the coastal and tourist part of Soorts-Hossegor, but administratively, it is a single municipality.

Hossegor Lake and its natural riches

The marine lake of Hossegor is a fascinating natural sanctuary, where the saltwaters dance to the rhythm of the tides. From grey herons to little egrets, a multitude of birds find refuge in this unspoilt setting.

The banks are home to a thriving aquatic life. Fishermen regularly spot sea bass, sea bream and mullet, while birdwatchers can admire the aerial ballet of sandwich terns.

Exceptional architectural heritage

Hossegor's architecture bears witness to a rich cultural heritage. The Notre-Dame-des-Dunes chapel, built in 1931, stands out for its neo-Basque style, which is unique in France. Its architect, Louis Lagrange, created perfect harmony between tradition and modernity.

The Sainte-Trinité church, built in the 1950s, has a remarkable white trapezoidal façade, while the Saint-Étienne church in Soorts has a sculpted porch dating from the 13th century. These buildings tell the story of the town's architectural development.

The Sporting Casino, a jewel of Basque-Landes style designed by Henri Godbarge between 1927 and 1931, deserves its classification as a Historic Monument. Its iconic silhouette embodies the golden age of a seaside resort that has managed to preserve its authentic character.

Les Barthes: unique unspoilt nature

In the heart of the Landes region, Les Barthes d'Hossegor covers 50 hectares of marshy meadows, forming a rare and protected ecosystem. These waterlogged lands are home to exceptional wildlife, including multicoloured butterflies, migratory birds and dragonflies.

A 3.7-kilometre network of footpaths allows visitors to explore these unique wetlands. Attentive walkers will notice the lush flora, including wild orchids and aquatic plants.

The departmental hunting federation is responsible for maintaining this natural sanctuary, while the municipality manages the water system. This collaboration ensures the preservation of this ecological treasure, a veritable green lung on the outskirts of the city.
