The park of the Château de Versailles, an open-air museum

The very image of splendour and excess, the Château de Versailles and its park are the emblem of the town of the same name. With its 700 rooms, its furniture and its works of art, the immense castle is a must-see in the Yvelines. Like the castle, the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by Le Nôtre in the 17th century for the Sun King, who wanted to live away from Paris, it is now famous throughout the world for its magnificent formal gardens. During a walk, you will admire the grandiose architecture of the small and large Trianon, the Queen's adorable hamlet, a rural place that she described as a little paradise and which allowed her to forget her condition as queen. You will stroll through a charming setting of twelve thatched cottages around a fishing pond. A vegetable garden, an orchard, a flower garden and a farm to produce milk and eggs for the queen were all requested by the queen. During the walk, you will discover the Neptune and Apollo basins as well as the water beds and the Orangery surrounded by exotic trees. A real open-air museum located on either side of the Grand Canal.

Labelled a Remarkable Garden by the Ministry of Culture, it offers 126 hectares of captivating walks amidst century-old trees and the intoxicating scent of flowers. Here, each season offers a different landscape and transports you to 300 years of garden history, with different landscapes, romantic, wild, bucolic... from the 16th century to today. There are French and English gardens, a rose garden and a labyrinth. The Renaissance-style château of Thoiry was built in the 16th century by the architect Philibert Delorme. Although not everything is open to the public, it is still possible to admire, among other things, the beautiful main staircase with its Gobelin tapestries, the Salon du Matin, and an archive museum with letters from Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Rodin and Châteaubriand.
