Visit the castle of Fougères during your camping holiday

The first Château de Fougères was built to defend the Marches de Bretagne, the north-eastern part of the border area of the Duchy of Brittany. Its strategic location not far from the coast made this construction the object of many battles between France and England. Besieged many times, it was destroyed and rebuilt several times between the 11th and 15th centuries. Its tormented history has given it high walls, watchtowers and shooting towers, ramparts and monumental gates, capable of withstanding the progress of artillery. A symbol of the loyalty of the Dukes of Brittany to the Kings of France during the Hundred Years' War, its strong walls attracted Romantics such as Chateaubriand, Hugo and Balzac in the 19th century. Finally, it has been listed as an archaeological site since the beginning of the 20th century.

All year round, the castle of Fougères offers visitors events, shows, storytelling tours, medieval festivals, etc.

During your visit, you can choose between a free audio guide for each visitor or the possibility of a guided tour of the castle with a guide at no extra cost.
