At the edge of the eponymous bay, Arcachon is a seaside resort famous for nearly two centuries. Considered a small sea, this 1500-hectare bay, fed both by the ocean and numerous waterways, resembles a lagoon. A golden crown of fine sand borders the bay, culminating in a point 104 meters high, Pilat: the queen of the dunes.
